Grand ménage de printemps : notre guide complet

Spring cleaning: our complete guide

Want to start a big spring cleaning to find a clean and healthy home? No need to wait for the return of the good weather to do so!

No matter what time of year it is, sorting out and deep cleaning your home is always good for morale. But the hardest part, as is often the case, is getting started…

Today we're helping you take the plunge with our tips and checklist for successful spring cleaning.

Why do spring cleaning?

Due to lack of time or desire, we sometimes only do superficial cleaning in our homes. Over the months and years, dirt accumulates, objects pile up and the home fills up. This makes it difficult to combine work, family, social life, leisure activities and household chores.

However, there is nothing like an unwelcoming home to bring down your morale. The return of sunny days, with the renewed energy that it brings, is the ideal time to organize your spring cleaning.

While this work can take us several days, the reward at the end is worth the effort. Sorting and deep cleaning has well-known therapeutic effects. The feeling of resetting the counters is intoxicating. Living daily in a clean, fresh and tidy space also brings a lasting sense of well-being and satisfaction.

So when should you do spring cleaning? The answer is simple: whenever you feel like it. So there's no need to wait for the good weather to come back to enjoy the benefits of this great undertaking.

Proceed to cleaning all rooms in the house

How to do the big spring cleaning? It's simple, start by airing all the rooms in the house then proceed to cleaning and sorting room by room using our list.

The living room

The living room is the main living space of the house. Along with the kitchen, it therefore requires special attention. Start by decluttering the space before embarking on a deep cleaning.

Use our spring cleaning checklist to make sure you don't forget anything:

  • Sort and order objects
  • Dust furniture and electronic devices
  • Shake out rugs and sofa cushions
  • Vacuum the floor and the inside of the sofa, not forgetting the top of the skirting boards.
  • Sanitize your fabric sofa, curtains and carpets
  • Clean the windows and door handles

The kitchen

Don't be fooled by the small size of the kitchen. Between sorting out expired products, degreasing cooking appliances, defrosting the fridge and freezer, this room will take up a good part of your time and energy. So follow our spring cleaning checklist to make your task easier:

1. Empty and sort food into:

  • Cupboards
  • Fridge
  • Freezer

2. Degrease, scrub and/or disinfect the:

  • Fridge
  • Hotplates
  • Oven
  • Microwave oven
  • Toaster
  • Worktop and sink
  • Extractor hood
  • Trash cans
  • Ground

3. Wash:

  • Curtains and carpets
  • Tea towels and napkins
  • The windows

The bathroom

The bathroom is a room that deteriorates quickly without proper cleaning. Spring cleaning is then an opportunity to restore shine to the tiles and empty the cupboards.

  • Sort the medicine cabinet, cupboards and bathroom products
  • Descaling taps and tiles
  • Scrubbing tile joints
  • Wash and disinfect the toilets, floor, shower curtain and shower tray
  • Wash the windows and mirror
  • Dust objects and shelves
  • Empty the trash

The rooms

In bedrooms, especially children's bedrooms, good space organization is essential. You can:

  • Sort through your belongings and recycle those you no longer need.
  • Order the remaining ones, especially the clothes

Then it's time to clean. Pay particular attention to the maintenance of the bedding:

  • Open all windows
  • Air and turn the mattress
  • Shake pillows and blankets
  • Vacuum the room, under the bed, dust the furniture and light fixtures
  • Change the sheets

Psst! Additional spring cleaning tip: use an upright household steamer on all your textiles: curtains, cushions, rugs, bedspreads, etc.

The device allows you to freshen up all fabrics. The creases are smoothed out, the fabrics, favorite targets of mites, are sanitized, all without adding any cleaning product. The steam straightener is therefore the ultimate weapon for an impeccable wardrobe... but also, for a clean and healthy home without effort!

The office

To find a clean and clear office, before the big cleaning, a thorough sorting is necessary:

  • Sort papers, letters and pens
  • Organize papers and supplies in appropriate storage areas
  • Dusting the furniture
  • Clean the computer screen and keyboard
  • Vacuum every nook and cranny of the room, shake out the carpets
  • Clean the windows and maintain the curtains

Get the materials for an effective spring cleaning

To clean efficiently, having the right tools and household products is essential.

Investing in quality household appliances makes your job easier while still achieving professional results. When it comes to accessories and cleaning products, don't hesitate to go back to safe bets. Think about natural products for a more eco-friendly spring cleaning!

For a successful deep cleaning, you need:

  • White vinegar
  • Black soap
  • Baking soda

Essential devices and accessories:

  • A vacuum cleaner
  • A steam cleaner
  • A soft cloth (like a clean microfiber cloth)
  • A bristle brush
  • A mop and bucket of water
  • A double-sided sponge

Now you are perfectly equipped. Remember, for your spring cleaning, flawless organization is the key to success.
